About the role#
This is a paid Summer 2027 internship within the CyberSecurity SOC Engineering group. You will observe daily operations, learn internal processes, and identify opportunities for improvement. You will work closely with a mentor to meet developmental goals and performance expectations while applying your classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios.
What you'll do#
- Learn the operating model of an enterprise SOC and MDR service.
- Understand the roles of internal cybersecurity teams and managed security service providers.
- Study the lifecycle of security events, alerts, incidents, and escalations.
- Review how SOC analysts investigate alerts and use security telemetry for threat detection.
- Learn how detection rules, correlation logic, and automation contribute to security monitoring.
- Examine SOC workflows to identify opportunities for increased efficiency.
- Compare academic cybersecurity frameworks against actual operations.
- Document your findings through diagrams, workflows, and summaries.
- Develop and deliver a final presentation on your experience and recommendations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Proficiency in at least one operating system.
- Experience with Windows and Microsoft Office.
- Strong interest in cybersecurity operations and incident response.
- Ability to research technical concepts and communicate findings clearly.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical professionals.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts and best practices.
- Exposure to frameworks like NIST, ISO 27001, or SOC 2.
- Understanding of cloud technologies and SaaS applications.
- Experience with data analysis or reporting tools.
- Professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.
