About the role#
Oakland County offers an opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in downtown revitalization and place-based development through the Main Street Coordinating Program. This is a paid, full-time internship that operates on a hybrid schedule. You will work under the supervision of professional staff to support the Four Points of the Main Street Approach: Design, Economic Vitality, Organization, and Promotion.
What you'll do#
- Support a variety of Main Street programs, initiatives, and special projects through research, data analysis, and event support.
- Assist with downtown revitalization, historic preservation, and community development efforts.
- Gather, organize, and analyze community data, economic statistics, and building inventories to assist with departmental reports and decision-making.
- Maintain organized project records, work plans, and documentation.
- Prepare reports, presentations, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Participate in meetings and site visits to gain exposure to community revitalization efforts.
- Communicate with County departments, clients, and outside agencies to exchange project information.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university as a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
- Academic background in fields such as Urban Planning, Public Health, Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, or Communications.
- Ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Proficiency with personal computer programs, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
- Knowledge of program analysis, evaluation, research methods, and statistics.
- Ability to plan and complete assignments accurately within established deadlines.
