About the role#
This internship offers an opportunity to gain experience in local government through the Main Street Coordinating Program. You will work under the supervision of professional staff to support downtown revitalization, historic preservation, and community development. This role provides exposure to the Four Points of the Main Street Approach: Design, Economic Vitality, Organization, and Promotion.
What you'll do#
- Support Main Street programs, initiatives, and special projects through research, data analysis, and event assistance.
- Assist with downtown revitalization and place-based community development efforts.
- Gather, organize, and analyze community data, economic statistics, and building inventories to support departmental reports and decision-making.
- Maintain organized project records, work plans, and documentation.
- Prepare project sheets, reports, presentations, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Participate in meetings, site visits, and community activities to gain practical insight into public-sector planning and downtown management.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university as a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
- Academic background in Urban Planning, Public Health, Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, or Communications.
- Ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Proficiency with personal computer programs, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
- Knowledge of research methods, statistics, and program analysis.
- Ability to plan and complete assignments within established deadlines.
