About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in juvenile probation work within the Oakland County Casework Services Department. You will work alongside probation professionals to support youth and families navigating the juvenile justice system. This role involves courtroom observation, client advocacy, and project-based work that contributes to departmental goals.
What you'll do#
- Assist probation staff with monitoring court-ordered compliance and documenting client progress.
- Observe courtroom proceedings to learn how probation officers present cases and collaborate with legal professionals.
- Participate in client interviews and mentorship activities to support youth and families.
- Draft court reports, organize case documentation, and prepare materials for hearings.
- Communicate with clients, families, schools, and community agencies to collect and share case information.
- Research recidivism trends and assist with data collection for department initiatives.
- Use department software to support case management and administrative tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university as a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student.
- Ability to present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of research methods, statistics, and program analysis.
- Proficiency with standard computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Capability to plan tasks and meet deadlines while following established policies.

- This is a paid, on-site internship located in Pontiac, Michigan.
- The position follows a rolling term schedule.
- Candidates may be required to provide their own reliable transportation for job duties, with mileage reimbursement available for authorized travel.
