About the role#
NVIDIA Research is looking for PhD students to join our team for a Summer 2027 internship. You will work at the intersection of AI, GPU computing, formal methods, and electronic design automation. This role focuses on applying AI and GPU acceleration to improve chip design workflows. You will have the opportunity to research and develop new software and algorithms while collaborating with our circuits, VLSI, and architecture teams.
What you'll do#
- Apply agentic AI, LLMs, generative AI, and reinforcement learning to chip design workflows.
- Develop creative EDA software and algorithms.
- Collaborate with research and product teams on circuits, VLSI, and architecture.
- Publish and present your original research.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program for Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Publications in leading EDA or AI conferences regarding AI for EDA, formal methods, or GPU-accelerated EDA.
- Strong programming skills in Python for rapid prototyping.
- Expertise in EDA algorithms such as formal verification, logic synthesis, physical design, and timing and signoff.
- Project experience applying AI to solve technical problems.
- Ability to synthesize complex technical concepts and explain them clearly.
- Experience with C++ and parallel programming like CUDA is a plus.
- Self-motivation and a focus on research.

- This position is located in Santa Clara, California.
- The role is on-site and full-time.
- This is a paid internship with an hourly rate between 38 USD and 94 USD.
