About the role#
The Global R&D team in Kennesaw, Georgia, is seeking an intern for our summer 2027 program. This 12-week position focuses on the characterization and investigation of surface chemistry, coatings, rolling lubricants, and materials related to aluminum processing and recycling. You will work directly with scientists, engineers, and technologists to support R&D projects and process troubleshooting.
What you'll do#
- Complete all required safety training and follow laboratory procedures, including the use of PPE and safe chemical handling.
- Perform laboratory testing to support the characterization of materials.
- Operate and support the use of laboratory instruments and equipment under supervision.
- Collect, organize, and analyze data to identify trends and support technical conclusions.
- Document experimental work, observations, and results in laboratory notebooks and reports.
- Prepare technical summaries and present findings to team members and stakeholders.
- Maintain laboratory organization and support general housekeeping to ensure an efficient work environment.
- Collaborate with the team on continuous improvement activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited four-year university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Completion of at least sophomore year by the start of the internship.
- Ability to work full-time for approximately 12 weeks during the summer of 2027.
- Basic understanding of chemistry, laboratory practices, data collection, and technical problem solving.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow written procedures and safety requirements.
- Current authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
- Preferred: Junior or senior academic standing, previous laboratory experience, and coursework in organic or analytical chemistry, polymers, or surface science.
- Preferred: Experience with instrumentation such as FTIR, GC-FID, GC-MS, microscopy, spectroscopy, or titration.
