As a Security Engineer Intern, you will help design, build, and automate controls that protect our platform and data. You will work closely with the Security, Infrastructure, and Product Engineering teams to improve our overall security posture.
What you'll do#
- Build and automate security controls and guardrails, such as infrastructure-as-code policy checks and automated secrets detection.
- Create or tune detections and response playbooks for key risks, validating them through simulation.
- Contribute to secure-by-default developer workflows, including pre-commit hooks, CI/CD pipelines, and dependency scanning.
- Implement measurable improvements to cloud security, such as misconfiguration checks and improved logging coverage.
- Write clear documentation and operational SOPs for your projects.
- Partner with the team on security reviews for low-to-medium risk changes.
What you'll need#
- Coursework or projects in security engineering, cloud, or DevSecOps.
- Ability to automate with at least one programming language.
- Familiarity with security domains such as cloud security, identity and access management, or container basics.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and policy-as-code.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to turn ambiguous problems into actionable plans.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or Health Administration.
Location & details#
- Location: San Mateo, California.
- Modality: Remote or Hybrid. Bay Area-based employees are expected to be in the San Mateo office at least three days per week. Remote employees may be required to travel occasionally for onsite gatherings.
- Compensation: $30 – $50 per hour.
- Term: Rolling.
