About the role#
As a Security Engineer Intern, you will help design, build, and automate controls to protect our platform and data. You will partner with the Security, Infrastructure, and Product Engineering teams to improve our overall security posture.
What you'll do#
- Build and automate security controls and guardrails, including infrastructure-as-code policy checks and automated secrets detection.
- Create or tune detections and response playbooks for key risks and validate them through simulation.
- Contribute to secure-by-default developer workflows, such as pre-commit hooks, CI/CD pipeline security, and dependency scanning.
- Implement measurable improvements to cloud security, including misconfiguration checks and logging coverage.
- Write clear documentation and operational standard operating procedures for your projects.
- Partner on security reviews for low-to-medium risk changes and track necessary mitigations.
What you'll need#
- Current or recent coursework or projects in security engineering, cloud, or DevSecOps.
- Ability to automate tasks using at least one programming language.
- Familiarity with common security domains, including cloud security, identity and access management, or container basics.
- Experience with or interest in infrastructure-as-code and policy-as-code tools.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to turn ambiguous problems into actionable plans.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or Health Administration.
Location & details#
- This position is based in San Mateo, California.
- The role offers both remote and hybrid work options.
- For Bay Area employees, the role requires working from the San Mateo office at least three days per week.
- Remote employees may be expected to travel to headquarters occasionally for company events.
- This is a paid, part-time internship with a rolling term.
