    About the role#

    Northrop Grumman is hiring a Mechanical Engineer Intern for the Navigation, Intelligence, and Connectivity (NIC) division. You will work on-site in McClellan, California, during the summer of 2027. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week for a minimum of 10 weeks.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist senior engineers with the design, analysis, and iteration of navigation and mission-support hardware.
    • Use software including SolidWorks, ANSYS, and MATLAB/Simulink to perform dimensional, material, and vibration analyses.
    • Fabricate test articles using 3-D printing, CNC machining, and other rapid prototyping methods.
    • Conduct thermal, structural, and environmental laboratory tests to ensure compliance with aerospace and defense standards.
    • Create assembly instructions, bills of materials, and detailed design documentation.
    • Coordinate with avionics and software teams to ensure mechanical interfaces are safe and functional.
    • Help track project costs, schedules, and risks.
    • Participate in design reviews and update models based on team feedback.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM field.
    • You must be enrolled as a full-time student for the Fall 2027 semester.
    • A cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher.
    • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
    • Experience with CAD design and modeling for aerospace components.
    • Familiarity with structural testing protocols and finite element analysis.
    • Knowledge of additive manufacturing processes and rapid prototyping tools.
    • Understanding of AS9100, MIL STD 810, or MIL STD 461 quality systems.
    • Previous project or internship experience in an aerospace or defense environment.
    • Preference is given to candidates with an active security clearance.
