About the role#
This summer internship offers hands-on experience in AI development. You will work with the AI Development team to research, build, and test solutions that improve internal business operations and software development. You will analyze workflows to find automation opportunities and create prototypes for new AI-enabled use cases.
What you'll do#
- Research and evaluate emerging AI tools and frameworks.
- Support the development and testing of AI-driven proof-of-concepts.
- Analyze business processes to identify efficiency improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements.
- Prepare and organize data to support machine learning initiatives.
- Document findings and project updates in internal tools like Confluence.
- Maintain regular communication with team members and stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- A High School diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program for Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Familiarity with AI concepts like machine learning, generative AI, natural language processing, and intelligent automation.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python or Java.
- Knowledge of data analysis, databases, and software development lifecycles.
- Familiarity with cloud-based AI services or AI-assisted development tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Commitment to NISC’s Statement of Shared Values.
Location & details#
- Term: Summer 2027 (May through August).
- Status: Paid, full-time internship.
- Modality: Hybrid. You must be able to work from the office at least 3 days per week, with the option to work up to 5 days.
- Locations: Cedar Rapids, IA or Lake Saint Louis, MO.
