About the role#
The New York Botanical Garden is looking for a student researcher and designer to support the Workforce Innovation and Leadership Development (WILD) initiative. This project is a two-year professional development program funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. You will report to the Senior Director of Learning Operations and Strategy. Your work will focus on gathering evidence and designing program improvements to ensure WILD remains responsive to staff needs. This is a part-time position suitable for a graduate student interested in applied research and organizational learning.
What you'll do#
- Coordinate the Seeds of Growth microgrant cycle by managing timelines, tracking applications, and supporting participating departments.
- Maintain project plans, documentation, and records to help teams reach their milestones.
- Design and administer feedback tools such as surveys, interview protocols, and focus group guides.
- Conduct and document interviews, listening sessions, and project check-ins while maintaining confidentiality.
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify themes, patterns, and actionable findings.
- Translate research evidence into quarterly summaries, briefings, and presentations.
- Create practical case examples and resources based on Seeds of Growth projects.
- Collaborate with the WILD Student Instructional Designer to ensure evaluation findings inform future program resources.
- Manage project files, evidence logs, and grant-supported time records.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a graduate program related to organizational development, learning sciences, evaluation, social or behavioral research, human-centered design, public administration, museum studies, or education.
- Experience conducting or supporting qualitative or quantitative research.
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple timelines and stakeholder communications.
- Ability to facilitate respectful conversations with staff and managers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Commitment to data quality, documentation, and responsible stewardship of information.
- Experience with program evaluation, organizational learning, or change management is preferred.
- Interest in workforce development, equitable access to professional learning, and digital literacy.
Location & details#
- This role is based in the Bronx, New York.
- The schedule is 16 hours per week, typically across two business days.
- The position offers a hybrid work model, with one day of remote work possible per week upon supervisor approval.
- In-person attendance is required for meetings, interviews, and other on-site activities.
- The pay rate is 30 dollars per hour.
