About the role#
The Science Intern position provides training for students in New York City. This is a part-time, seasonal role focused on botanical research and biodiversity collections. You will work with a mentor on a project related to research, collections, or the library.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research on topics like plant diversity, molecular biology, systematics, or bioinformatics.
- Participate in enrichment activities covering career awareness, science communication, and skill building.
- Work in teams to make progress on scientific research projects.
- Follow all safety practices and procedures while onsite.
- Complete duties assigned by your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a high school or undergraduate degree program in NYC.
- An interest in plant science and a desire to learn.
- Ability to be responsible, punctual, professional, and self-motivated.
- Willingness to work as part of a team.
- Completion of required safety training if performing research in the laboratory.
Location & details#
- Location: Bronx, New York.
- Work modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Part-time, approximately 5 hours per week.
- Physical requirements: Ability to stand, walk, sit, and lift or move up to 25 pounds. You may work in offices, laboratories, or collections areas.
