About the role#
The Science Internship is a part-time, seasonal position designed to provide training and professional development for students in New York City. Interns work with a mentor on projects related to botanical research, biodiversity collections, or library science. Successful interns may be eligible to reapply for future seasons based on performance and funding.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research in areas such as plant diversity, molecular biology, systematics, taxonomy, morphology, or bioinformatics.
- Work within a team to make progress on scientific research projects.
- Participate in enrichment activities focused on career awareness, science communication, and skill building.
- Adhere to all safety practices and procedures while working in the office, laboratory, or collections environment.
- Carry out assigned duties as directed by your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a high school or undergraduate degree program in New York City.
- An interest in plant science and a passion for learning.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- A responsible, punctual, professional, and self-motivated approach to work.
- Completion of required safety training for laboratory research.
Location & details#
- Location: Bronx, New York.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Part-time, approximately 5 hours per week, with a schedule determined by your supervisor. Minors are limited to 3 hours per day during the school week.
- Compensation: $17 per hour.
- Physical requirements include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods and the ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
