    About the role#

    The New Britain Museum of American Art is hiring a Luce Curatorial Fellow to support Puerto Rico in Focus: Historical Interventions. This initiative explores the intersections of Puerto Rican and American art. You will work closely with two exhibition co-curators, one based in Connecticut and one in Puerto Rico. This role is a full-time, on-site position funded by the Henry Luce Foundation. You will report to the Director of Collections and Exhibitions while collaborating across multiple museum departments.

    What you'll do#

    • Conduct original scholarly research on artists, artworks, and historical themes.
    • Assist with the exhibition checklist, loan requests, and communications with lending institutions.
    • Compile bibliographies, image permissions, and object research for the exhibition catalogue.
    • Manage project timelines, research calendars, and administrative documentation.
    • Help plan and implement a scholarly advisory convening, including travel logistics and briefing materials.
    • Collaborate with the Learning and Engagement Department on public programs and digital guides.
    • Support bilingual interpretive initiatives.
    • Track project expenditures, process invoices, and maintain grant documentation.
    • Research potential acquisitions to strengthen the museum's holdings of Puerto Rican art.
    • Travel domestically, including multiple research trips to Puerto Rico.

    What you'll need#

    • A Master's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a closely related field. Ph.D. candidates are encouraged to apply.
    • Previous museum or gallery experience.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Puerto Rican, Caribbean, Latin American, or American art, with an interest in art from the 18th to the 20th centuries.
    • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish.
    • Strong research and writing skills, including experience with archival or object-based research.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
