About the role#
The Kentucky Derby Museum is seeking an Education Intern for the Winter 2027 term. This paid, part-time position supports the daily management of education initiatives that reach approximately 30,000 students annually. You will report to the Outreach Program Manager and work alongside the Director of Programming and the Museum Education Program Coordinator.
What you'll do#
- Support outreach visits, field trips, and virtual programs.
- Deliver educational programming for K-12 students and adult audiences.
- Create content that aligns with state curriculum standards.
- Conduct field research and engage in professional development.
- Participate in departmental meetings and meet with directors.
- Provide customer service to visitors and team members.
- Uphold the museum mission and follow the dress code.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in History, Museum Studies, Education, Equine Business, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
- Ability to lead field trip presentations and develop diverse educational programs.
- Commitment to completing at least 150 hours between January and April.
- Ability to stand for long periods, walk, climb stairs, and lift packages up to 25 pounds.
- Comfort working in crowded areas and navigating non-climate-controlled spaces when necessary.
Location & details#
- This position is based on-site in Louisville, Kentucky.
- Work occurs during standard museum hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
