About the role#
As an Education Intern at Nashville Zoo, you will gain experience in interpretation, program development, and conservation education. You will work within the Education Department to support onsite programs, animal outreach, and historic site management at the Grassmere home and farm. This is a full-time, paid position for the Winter 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the development, facilitation, and evaluation of education programs and interpretive experiences for diverse audiences.
- Interpret for various species throughout the zoo and at the Grassmere historic site.
- Create programs that align with Nashville Zoo standards, Next Generation Science Standards, and Common Core requirements.
- Develop evaluations to assess participant learning and inform future program growth.
- Contribute to the overall guest experience at the zoo.
- Complete a project that highlights your specific interests and benefits your department.
- Participate in orientations and a professional development series covering topics like guest engagement and resume building.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- An interest in animal behavior and working with animals.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- A willingness to learn about zoo operations, the animal collection, and conservation efforts.
- Ability to stand for long periods and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
- You must provide proof of a negative TB test and a valid driver's license.

- This role is based on-site in Nashville, Tennessee.
- The internship runs from January 18, 2027, to April 16, 2027.
- This is a full-time position requiring 30 to 40 hours per week.
