About the role#
This position is for nursing students seeking hands-on clinical experience within the 36-bed oncology med-surg unit at the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to assist in patient care while furthering your professional development. This unit serves patients across general, surgical, and gynecologic oncology, maintaining a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 to 4 or 1 to 5.
What you'll do#
- Assist in providing patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
- Participate in professional development within a clinical environment.
- Maintain high standards of care for oncology and acute care patients.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Active enrollment in an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program.
- Successful completion of at least one Pharmacology course and two semesters of Medical Surgical Theory or Clinical courses.
- Active status on the Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant registry, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
- Active status on the Nebraska Medication Aide registry, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification from an American Heart Association endorsed program within 30 days of hire.
- Effective communication skills.
