The Education Fellow position is a full-time, paid opportunity designed to build skills in informal science education. Fellows work across multiple museum channels, including live stage presentations, galleries, and digital media. The role provides hands-on experience in museum operations and STEM communication, with the possibility of extending the fellowship for a second year.
What you'll do#
- Deliver educational programming daily or weekly in STEM subjects to engage diverse audiences.
- Teach across various museum channels, including in-person stages, galleries, and online platforms.
- Develop and present programs using media tools such as video, immersive projections, and AV theater effects.
- Collaborate with department staff to maintain educational areas, teaching spaces, and critical resources.
- Learn to safely utilize museum resources, including scientific demonstration equipment, biological materials, and live animals.
- Participate in the development of new programming, ranging from short video content to 20-minute stage presentations.
What you'll need#
- Post-high school coursework, technical degree, associate's degree, or a business/vocational certificate.
- At least one year of experience in a STEM field or an education-related background.
- Demonstrated communication skills, including both verbal oratory and written abilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Strong preference for bilingual or multilingual candidates, particularly those able to deliver programming in languages prevalent in the greater Boston area.
- Majors considered include Biology, Physics, Environmental Engineering, Psychology, Communications, Nursing, Public Health, and Kinesiology.
Location & details#
- Location: Boston, Massachusetts.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week). Requires regular weekend work (Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday schedule) and occasional flexibility for holidays and evening events.
- Term: Summer 2026 start.
