About the role#
ECHO is seeking an Early Childhood Education Intern for the Fall 2026 season. This internship offers undergraduate and graduate students practical experience in informal teaching through the ECHO Early Learning (EEL) program. Interns will work with children ages 0-5 and their caregivers, gaining exposure to play-based, school readiness curriculum centered on STEAM concepts. This role involves mentorship from experienced early childhood educators and provides insight into the Vermont Early Learning Standards.
What you'll do#
- Assist lead instructors in facilitating daily learning activities and crafts for young children with an emphasis on STEAM.
- Manage setup and cleanup tasks for the EEL program.
- Collaborate with an advisor on specific ECHO-related early childhood educational projects.
- Dedicate time to curriculum building and program development.
What you'll need#
- An understanding of early childhood development.
- Experience working with young children.
- Ability to work both independently and within diverse teams.
- Self-motivation to complete projects in a timely manner.
- Flexibility and adaptability to handle a wide variety of tasks, including light cleaning.
- Majors considered include Psychology, Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, Kinesiology, Biology, Human Resources, and Sociology.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, part-time, on-site internship located in Burlington, Vermont.
- The schedule requires attendance on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, with additional time for curriculum development, totaling 9 hours per week.

ECHO is a science and nature museum situated on the Lake Champlain waterfront in Burlington, Vermont. Founded in 2003, the organization operates as a nonprofit and serves as the public face of the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain.
