About the role#
MSD offers a co-op opportunity within the Vaccines and Advanced Biotechnologies Process R&D division. This program lasts 4-6 months and provides hands-on experience in the research division. You will work under the direction of a project mentor and contribute to early-stage process development projects.
What you'll do#
- Perform lab-scale process development and scale-up studies.
- Develop efficient, scalable cell culture processes for vaccine production.
- Support lab-scale fermentation, in-process assays, and process engineering.
- Maintain and coordinate raw material and equipment inventories.
- Assist with pilot-scale campaigns for the GMP manufacture of bulk clinical material, including preparation, execution, and closeout.
- Transfer technology to later stage development groups.
- Document results in writing and present findings verbally.
- Maintain laboratory safety and comply with all required training.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a BS or BA program in Chemical, Biomedical, or Biological Engineering, Bioengineering, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Ability to work full-time for a 4-6 month period during 2027.
- Proven ability to work in a hands-on laboratory setting.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow instructions, and manage multiple tasks.
- Direct experience with cell culture, fermentation, upstream process development, or expression system development is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, or virometry is a plus.
