About the role#
As an intern chemist, you will work with experienced staff to develop high-performance silicone formulations for aerospace applications. This role provides hands-on laboratory experience and mentorship, covering the full product development process from the lab to production scale. You will define and execute a technical project and present your findings to the Aerospace Technology team at the end of the summer.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and evaluate silicone formulations for new product development, raw material qualifications, and product improvement initiatives.
- Partner with a mentor to design and execute experiments, using statistical tools like Minitab or Design-Expert to analyze data.
- Procure materials, conduct testing on uncured and cured silicone, and document your results.
- Apply safe laboratory practices and operate specialized equipment.
- Analyze data to draw technical conclusions and communicate your findings through reports and presentations.
- Maintain the chemical inventory management system by auditing records and updating databases.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- You must be enrolled for at least one semester following the conclusion of the internship.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong laboratory skills, including accurate weighing and pipetting.
- General knowledge of safe laboratory practices for working with chemicals in a fume hood.
- The ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

- Location: Waterford, New York.
- Term: Summer 2027 (10-12 weeks between May and August).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: Paid ($22.00 - $26.00 per hour).
