About the role#
As a Barley Research & Development Intern, you will support the malting barley development strategy. You will assist with projects focused on creating superior proprietary malting barley varieties to support a sustainable supply chain. This role is part of the Early Talent Program, which provides undergraduate students with experience in the beverage industry.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate disease incidence and severity in barley small plot trials.
- Rate plots for leaf diseases and collate data to determine susceptibility and resistance.
- Collect, package, and ship leaf tissue samples for laboratory analysis.
- Perform plant pathology work in an irrigated production setting.
- Collate phenotypic and genotypic data of diseases.
- Present findings in a final report.
What you'll need#
- You are an undergraduate student currently enrolled in courses.
- You are pursuing a bachelor degree in brewing, food science, chemistry, biology, microbiology, or chemical engineering.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions.
- Flexibility in work hours to collect field data based on irrigation schedules.
- Commitment to completing all internship requirements and deadlines.
