About the role#
The Transportation Internship is a temporary, full-time student position based in our Atlanta office for Summer 2027. You will support project teams by performing routine tasks across engineering, planning, and design disciplines. This role provides an opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world projects, including roadway, municipal, rail, port, and traffic work, under the direct supervision of experienced engineers and project managers.
What you'll do#
- Produce basic drawings, models, calculations, or code using approved software.
- View, navigate, and measure 2D and 3D models.
- Follow established CAD/BIM, graphics, and file-naming standards.
- Assist with engineering design tasks, specifications, cost estimates, and bid packages.
- Collect and organize project data for analysis.
- Perform basic numerical and statistical analysis, including testing and debugging simulation models.
- Document assumptions and process flows for supervisor review.
- Implement corrections on files and resolve routine technical issues.
- Participate in orientation, training, and technical check-ins.
- Communicate task status to your supervisor and senior team members.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a related technical field.
- Junior standing or above is preferred.
- High school or technical diploma.
- 0 to 2 years of drafting, CAD, or related technical experience.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Basic understanding of transportation engineering fundamentals and design standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to accept feedback.
- Accountability for the accuracy of assigned tasks.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
