About the role#
This is a temporary full-time Civil Internship for Summer 2027. You will join our team in Oakland or Walnut Creek to support project teams in civil engineering, planning, and design. This role focuses on building foundational knowledge of engineering principles and project workflows while performing routine tasks under direct supervision.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the preparation of engineering design documents, plans, and specifications.
- Prepare drawings and draft documents.
- Collect and organize field data, reports, maps, aerial photographs, and geotechnical or hydrological data.
- Produce basic drawings, models, calculations, or code using approved tools.
- View, navigate, and measure 2D and 3D models.
- Follow established CAD/BIM, graphics, coding, and file-naming standards.
- Perform basic numerical and statistical analysis.
- Assist with testing, debugging, and validation of analysis or simulation models.
- Document assumptions, process flows, and results.
- Implement corrections on drawings or files and resolve routine technical issues.
- Participate in intern orientation, training, and technical check-ins.
- Communicate task status and support technicians, engineers, and project managers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Civil Engineering or a related technical field (junior standing or above preferred).
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 preferred.
- Basic understanding of civil engineering fundamentals including grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and site layout.
- Exposure to AutoCAD and a desire to learn MicroStation or Civil 3D.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Clear communication and accountability for the accuracy of assigned tasks.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (sponsorship is not provided).
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
