    About the role#

    Moffatt & Nichol is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. This is a temporary, full-time, paid position based in our Seattle or Federal Way offices. You will work under direct supervision to support project teams, produce drawings, models, and calculations, and learn core engineering workflows. This role is an individual contributor position.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform structural analysis and design for marine structures, such as piers, wharves, bulkheads, seawalls, offshore platforms, dolphins, catwalks, and structural foundations.
    • Use timber, structural steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, aluminum, and composite materials in your designs.
    • Assist in developing plans, specifications, calculations, and reports.
    • Help resolve design problems through field investigations, detailed design work, and checking computations.
    • Calculate construction quantity estimates.
    • Collaborate with architects, engineers, scientists, and project managers on multi-discipline projects.
    • Perform structural and construction site inspections, including preparing inspection reports.
    • Support office construction administration by reviewing shop drawings and technical submittals.

    What you'll need#

    • You must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis and entering your final year after the summer of 2027.
    • A Master’s degree student is preferred.
    • Required coursework includes Engineering Materials, Structural Analysis, and at least one material design course in reinforced concrete or structural steel.
    • You should be working toward or already have an EIT certification.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills are required.
    • You must pass a pre-employment background check in compliance with NIST 800-171.
    • Preference is given to candidates with at least one previous internship, the ability to perform field investigations, and proficiency in AutoCAD, SAP2000, LPile, Mathcad, and Bluebeam.

    • Compensation: $28.00 to $36.00 per hour, depending on experience, education, and registration.
