About the role#
Moffatt & Nichol is looking for a Structural Engineering intern to join our team in Long Beach. You will support design engineers by assisting with the engineering and administration of projects. This role involves work on marine, waterfront, and bridge design and analysis.
What you'll do#
- Perform structural analysis and design for marine structures like piers, wharves, bulkheads, and offshore platforms.
- Design using timber, structural steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, aluminum, and composite materials.
- Assist in the development of plans, specifications, calculations, and reports.
- Help resolve design problems through field investigations, detailed design work, and checking computations.
- Calculate construction quantity estimates.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, scientists, and project managers on multi-discipline projects.
- Perform structural and construction site inspections and prepare associated reports.
- Handle office construction administration, including the review of shop drawings and technical submittals.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
- You must be entering your final year of study following the summer of employment.
- Completion of coursework in Engineering Materials, Structural Analysis, and at least one material design course (reinforced concrete or structural steel).
- Preference is given to students on a Master’s degree track.
- Progress toward or possession of an EIT certification is preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Previous internship experience, field investigation ability, and proficiency in AutoCAD, SAP2000, LPile, Mathcad, or Bluebeam are preferred.
