    About the role#

    The Transportation Internship at Moffatt & Nichol is a temporary, full-time summer role based in our Atlanta office. You will work under direct supervision to support project teams on a variety of transportation design projects, including roadway, municipal, rail, port, and traffic work. This is an entry-level position where you will apply your academic knowledge to real-world infrastructure projects while learning our internal tools and workflows.

    What you'll do#

    • Produce basic drawings, models, calculations, or code under direct supervision.
    • View, navigate, and measure 2D and 3D models.
    • Assist with engineering design tasks and the development of specifications, cost estimates, and bid packages.
    • Collect and organize project data, perform basic numerical analysis, and help test or debug simulation models.
    • Document your assumptions, process flows, and results for review.
    • Implement corrections on drawings or files and resolve routine technical issues.
    • Communicate task status to senior team members and participate in intern training and check-ins.
    • Support technicians, engineers, and project managers with daily project needs.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Civil or Transportation Engineering or a related technical field, with junior standing or above preferred.
    • High school or technical diploma.
    • 0 to 2 years of drafting, CAD, or related technical experience.
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
    • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
    • A basic understanding of transportation engineering fundamentals and design standards.
    • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills along with clear communication.
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check in compliance with NIST 800-171.

    • Location: Atlanta, GA.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Modality: This is an on-site, full-time position. Some site visits may be required, which could involve navigating natural terrain while carrying equipment.
