About the role#
The Community Banking and Commercial Intern supports the Commercial and CED department through recurring tasks and special projects during the summer of 2027. You will gain exposure to commercial banking, community development, and business strategy while working directly with our team in Rockford.
What you'll do#
- Research prospective businesses and organizations to help build and prioritize a market prospect pipeline.
- Assist the Commercial team with industry insights, relationship preparation, and pipeline reporting.
- Support CRA-eligible community development activities, including research, documentation, and volunteering.
- Help with Foundation and sponsorship activities, including impact tracking and event support using the Kadince platform.
- Identify cross-line referral opportunities across bank solutions like Treasury Management, Wealth, and Mortgage.
- Participate in team meetings, client interactions, and job-shadowing across various business lines.
- Develop and present a capstone project focused on market opportunities and business development recommendations.
- Maintain compliance with all banking regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program for business, finance, accounting, economics, marketing, or a related field.
- At least two years of your degree program completed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software programs.
- Strong research, analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- A professional, self-motivated, and curious approach to work.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Previous experience in banking, financial analysis, customer service, or data analysis is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Rockford, Illinois. You must reside locally and report to the Rockford office.
- Term: Summer 2027 (mid-May to early August).
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Compensation: $18 per hour.
