About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to work with the Data Engineering Department at Midland States Bank. You will assist with version control, deployment processes, and the preparation of data models for AI-enabled initiatives. You will gain hands-on experience with ETL development and learn how data flows through the organization to impact downstream reporting.
What you'll do#
- Assist with version controlling Data Engineering code to improve auditability.
- Support efforts to integrate AI processes within the deployment pipeline.
- Expose data models for use by AI models.
- Gain experience with ETL development and scripting languages, including Python and PowerShell.
- Use SQL and other technical tools to support engineering tasks.
- Interface with IT teams and various business units.
- Shadow the Database team and collaborate with Data Engineering team members.
- Learn how data quality affects reporting and business decisions.
- Translate technical requirements across different stakeholders.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program for Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Software Development, or a related field.
- Completion of at least 2 years of your degree program.
- Coursework or experience with SQL and Python or a similar scripting language.
- Software development coursework.
- Exposure to or interest in generative AI.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Teams.
- Ability to learn and use new software.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
Location & details#
- Term: Summer 2027 (mid-May through early August).
- Modality: On-site in Effingham, IL or St. Louis, MO.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Compensation: $18 per hour.
