About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in precast concrete manufacturing, structural design, and analysis. You will work alongside plant experts and experienced engineers to apply your academic knowledge to real-world projects. You will be assigned a mentor for daily support and guidance.
What you'll do#
- Gain exposure to plant operations, including steel fabrication, material handling, quality control, the carpentry shop, the batch plant, and finishing processes.
- Participate in project site visits to learn about the erection process.
- Assist experienced engineers with structural design and the analysis of various structures using industry-standard software.
- Review drawings under the guidance of senior staff.
- Complete a mock design project.
- Adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- A basic understanding of structural engineering principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changes in work schedules, tasks, or processes.
- A strong commitment to quality and a focus on safe working behaviors.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, 3D modeling software, knowledge of building codes, and prior internship experience are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: San Marcos, Texas.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Hours may vary during training in production areas.
- Work environment: This is an on-site, full-time position that splits time between an office and a plant environment. The plant area is not climate-controlled and may be exposed to changing weather conditions.
- Physical requirements: The role requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 75 lbs, bending, and the ability to climb up to 15 feet using stairs. You must be willing to wear required PPE, such as a hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, and steel-toed shoes, when working in the plant.
