About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in precast concrete manufacturing and structural design. You will work alongside plant experts and experienced engineers to apply your academic knowledge to real-world projects. You will be assigned a mentor for daily support and guidance.
What you'll do#
- Gain exposure to plant operations, including steel fabrication, material handling, quality control, the carpentry shop, the batch plant, and finishing processes.
- Participate in project site visits to observe the erection process.
- Assist experienced engineers with structural design and the analysis of various structures using industry-standard software.
- Review drawings under supervision.
- Complete a mock design project.
- Adhere to all Metromont and OSHA safety rules.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- A basic understanding of structural engineering principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
- Ability to adapt to changes in tasks or schedules.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or 3D modeling software is preferred.
- Knowledge of building codes and construction practices is preferred.
- Prior internship or co-op experience is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Bartow, Florida.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm (hours may vary during production training).
- Environment: This role involves both office and plant work. The plant area is not climate-controlled and may be exposed to varying weather. You must be able to stand for long periods, lift up to 75 lbs, and climb up to 15 feet using stairs.
- PPE: You will be required to wear safety glasses, a high-visibility vest, a hard hat, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, and gloves when working in the plant.
