About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in precast concrete manufacturing and structural design. You will work alongside plant experts and experienced engineers to apply your academic knowledge to real-world projects. You will be assigned a mentor for daily support and guidance.
What you'll do#
- Gain exposure to plant operations including steel fabrication, material handling, quality control, the carpentry shop, the batch plant, and finishing processes.
- Participate in project site visits to understand the erection process.
- Assist experienced engineers with structural design and the analysis of various structures using industry-standard software.
- Review technical drawings.
- Complete a mock design project.
- Follow all Metromont and OSHA safety rules and regulations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- A basic understanding of structural engineering principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
- Ability to adapt to changes in work schedules, tasks, or processes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, 3D modeling software, knowledge of building codes, and prior internship experience are preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Winchester, Virginia.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.
- Compensation: 22 to 24 USD per hour.
- Work Environment: This position splits time between an office and a plant environment. You may be exposed to varying weather conditions and noise. Physical requirements include standing for long periods, lifting up to 75 lbs, and climbing up to 15 feet.
