About the role#
As a Clinical Nursing Student in the Progressive Care Unit, you will gain hands-on experience through job shadowing and direct patient care. You will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse to develop your clinical skills and support the nursing process. This role is designed to provide exposure to a hospital environment while you complete your nursing education.
What you'll do#
- Provide direct patient care, including hygiene, mobility, feeding, and comfort measures.
- Record vital signs and assist with patient data collection.
- Act as a liaison between patients and the nursing team to report changes or concerns.
- Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to ensure quality care delivery.
- Perform delegated tasks once you have validated your competency.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
- Participate in hand-off reports and escalate concerns through the proper chain of command.
- Use clinical technology to assist in daily tasks.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a nursing program with at least one completed clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
- Ability to communicate clearly with the healthcare team and follow directions.
- Knowledge of patient safety standards, infection prevention, and transmission-based precautions.
- A compassionate, relationship-based approach to care.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Accountability for completing assigned tasks and maintaining professionalism.
- BLS certification and recent experience in acute or long-term care are preferred.
