About the role#
Mercy Health is hiring a Patient Care Technician for the Med Surg Unit at Anderson Hospital. This role supports patients while you continue your nursing studies. You will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse to provide essential care and comfort to patients. This is a part-time position scheduled for 24 hours per week on the night shift.
What you'll do#
- Monitor patient health and measure vital signs.
- Assist patients with basic needs such as feeding, grooming, and personal hygiene.
- Sanitize and clean patient rooms.
- Help patients with mobility using therapeutic transfer techniques.
- Act as a liaison between patients and their nursing team by reporting changes or concerns.
- Provide customer service to patients, their families, and visitors.
- Document care provided and participate in hand-off reports.
- Individualize support based on patient interests and hobbies.
What you'll need#
- Completion of a nursing aide training program, STNA, or CNA certification.
- Alternatively, you may qualify if you have completed a nursing program with at least one clinical course and one clinical rotation, or have one year of relevant clinical experience.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage professionally with staff and patients.
- BLS Basic Life Support certification is preferred.
- Experience in acute care, physician offices, home health, or long-term care is helpful.
- Familiarity with EPIC Electronic Health Record software is preferred.
