About the role#
The Clinical Nursing Student role at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital offers hands-on experience and clinical exposure. You will work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse to support patient care, develop your critical thinking skills, and gain experience in a hospital setting. This is a part-time, paid position with rolling terms.
What you'll do#
- Support the nursing process by assisting the Registered Nurse with patient care.
- Provide basic patient care, including hygiene, mobility, feeding, and recording vital signs.
- Act as a liaison between patients and the nursing team to report changes or concerns.
- Participate in patient data collection and maintain accurate, timely documentation.
- Perform delegated tasks once your competency is validated.
- Utilize clinical technology and escalate concerns through the proper chain of command.
- Engage in educational opportunities to build your nursing practice and critical thinking.
- Participate in hand-off reports to ensure continuity of care.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a nursing program with at least one completed clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation.
- Ability to communicate clearly and follow directions within a healthcare team.
- Knowledge of patient safety standards, infection prevention, and transmission-based precautions.
- A compassionate, relationship-based approach to care.
- Accountability for your assigned tasks and a professional demeanor.
- BLS certification and recent experience in acute or long-term care are preferred.
- Familiarity with EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) is preferred.
