About the role#
The Clinical Nursing Student role provides direct patient care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You will gain clinical experience through job shadowing and by performing tasks delegated to you by the RN. This position is designed to help you develop your nursing skills within the policies and procedures of Mercy Health.
What you'll do#
- Support the nurse in the application of the nursing process.
- Develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN.
- Provide basic patient care, including personal hygiene, mobility assistance, feeding, hydration, and recording vital signs.
- Act as a liaison between the patient and the nurse to report changes or concerns.
- Participate in patient hand-offs and report on departmental needs.
- Document patient care accurately and in a timely manner.
- Seek out educational opportunities related to nursing practice.
- Perform delegated tasks once your competency is validated.
- Utilize clinical technology as required and escalate concerns through the proper chain of command.
- Provide customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a nursing program.
- Completion of at least one semester of clinical rotations.
- Ability to communicate clearly with the healthcare team and follow directions.
- Knowledge of patient safety standards, infection prevention, and healthcare regulations.
- BLS certification is preferred.
- Recent experience in an acute or long-term care facility is preferred.
- Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record is preferred.
