About the role#
The Clinical Nursing Student role at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital offers hands-on experience by working alongside Registered Nurses. You will gain exposure to the nursing process while providing direct patient care under the guidance of healthcare professionals. This position is designed to help you build critical thinking skills through collaboration and active participation in a clinical environment.
What you'll do#
- Provide basic patient care, including hygiene, mobility assistance, feeding, hydration, and recording vital signs.
- Act as a liaison between patients and nurses to report changes or concerns.
- Participate in hand-off reports and document patient data accurately and on time.
- Perform delegated tasks once your competency is validated.
- Utilize clinical technology and escalate concerns through the appropriate chain of command.
- Deliver high-level customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in a nursing program with at least one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation completed.
- Ability to communicate clearly and follow directions within a healthcare team.
- Knowledge of patient safety standards, infection prevention, and transmission-based precautions.
- Accountability, professionalism, and a compassionate approach to care.
- BLS certification and recent experience in acute or long-term care are preferred.
