Neurologic Music Therapist - Clinical Internship

About the role#

This clinical internship provides an opportunity to gain experience in neurologic music therapy within a neuro-rehabilitation setting. Interns will work toward completing 1040 total hours, with approximately 900 hours dedicated to direct clinical care, while gaining exposure to the intersection of music, neuroscience, and patient recovery.

What you'll do#

• Develop a foundational understanding of neurologic populations, NMT research, neuroanatomy, and the neuroscience of music.
• Observe and facilitate co-treatments, as well as individual and group assessments and sessions.
• Develop patient treatment plans and establish specific goals and objectives.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and medical staff.
• Communicate the uses and benefits of NMT to patients, families, and the clinical team.
• Complete session documentation and maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
• Participate in clinical supervision and conduct an in-service presentation regarding NMT.

• Currently working toward a degree in Music Therapy.
• Strong clinical skills in administering NMT interventions and demonstrated clinical musicianship.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
