About the role#
McGill Associates, PA offers an internship for students to apply classroom knowledge to professional engineering projects. You will work alongside Project Engineers to gain practical experience and develop your technical skills. Assignments depend on your experience level and team placement, with the goal of preparing you for a future career in the field.
What you'll do#
- Perform standard design tasks and assist Project Engineers with project duties.
- Draft site layouts, grading, earthwork calculations, utility routing, and storm drainage plans.
- Work on water and wastewater treatment plant design, plus linear water and sewer line projects.
- Help develop permitting and final project documents.
- Support construction administration by reviewing contractor shop drawings, coordinating with field personnel, and conducting inspections.
- Document existing site features and utility systems through site evaluations.
- Prepare and evaluate project budgets, cost estimates, and quantities.
- Assist with design reports, specifications, and permit submittals.
- Track design changes and project communications.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Preference for rising Juniors and Seniors.
- Experience with AutoCAD is required, and Civil 3D is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- A valid driver license.

- This is a paid, full-time internship based on-site in Knoxville, Tennessee.
- The position follows a rolling term.
