About the role#
Maverick Payments is seeking an Underwriting Intern to support data-driven decision-making and operational efficiency within the finance department. This role offers hands-on experience working with real business data and collaborating with cross-functional teams to analyze key processes, identify optimization opportunities, and support partner onboarding workflows.
What you'll do#
- Conduct background checks on prospective reseller partners using designated screening and verification platforms.
- Review identity verification documents, such as government-issued IDs and SSN verification, alongside business verification documents like licenses and articles of incorporation.
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate, organized records throughout the underwriting review process.
- Flag discrepancies, missing documentation, or potential concerns for escalation to department leadership.
- Support administrative functions for the underwriting team, including file organization, workflow tracking, and process documentation.
- Assist with ad hoc reporting and special projects as assigned by leadership.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in finance, fintech, or payments.
- Proficiency in Excel.
- Exposure to SQL, Python, or BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau is preferred.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across cross-functional teams.
