Maverick Payments is seeking a detail-oriented Underwriting Intern to support data-driven decision-making and operational efficiency. This role offers hands-on experience working with real business data and collaborating with professionals in the payments space. Interns will work on projects involving application processing, onboarding, and risk monitoring to help mitigate loss and improve business performance.
What you'll do#
- Conduct background checks on prospective and existing reseller partners using designated screening tools.
- Review identity and business verification documents, such as government-issued IDs, business licenses, and articles of incorporation, for completeness.
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate records throughout the underwriting review process.
- Flag discrepancies, missing documentation, or potential concerns for escalation to department leadership.
- Support administrative functions, including file organization, process documentation, and workflow tracking.
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including Risk, Business Development, and Operations, to support onboarding workflows.
- Assist with ad hoc reporting and special projects as assigned by underwriting leadership.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Excel; exposure to SQL, Python, or BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau is preferred.
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across diverse teams.
- A demonstrated interest in finance, fintech, or the payments industry.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The position is based on-site in Calabasas, California.
- The internship term operates on a rolling basis.
