About the role#
This internship is for college students, ideally in Civil Engineering or Construction Management programs. It is designed for hands-on, field-oriented candidates who want to move into future Superintendent roles. You will work under the direction of Superintendents, Blasting Supervisors, or Drill Operators. The role requires working in varying weather conditions, and you may need to travel out of town or work overtime.
What you'll do#
- Follow all company safety procedures and policies.
- Attend daily heads-up safety meetings, as well as periodic job and foreman meetings.
- Perform construction labor tasks and follow directions from supervisors.
- Load and unload explosives from trucks.
- Pump blast holes dry using a water pump.
- Carry buckets of stemming stone to stem blast holes.
- Keep the job site clean and organized.
- Submit accurate, signed time cards to your Blaster or Foreman on a weekly basis.
- Work independently when required.
What you'll need#
- A valid driver license with a good driving record and your own transportation.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check for the ATF.
- Physical agility and the ability to work on uneven, loose surfaces outdoors.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally.
- Ability to stoop and bend for 60 to 70 percent of your shift.
- A willingness to learn and develop skills for higher-level tasks.
- Previous experience as a construction laborer is helpful but not required.
