About the role#
As a Data Science Intern, you will analyze complex data sets and contribute to machine learning and AI-enabled product solutions. You will work alongside data scientists and engineers to explore model performance, data quality, and customer-impact metrics. This role focuses on evaluating and improving AI-powered experiences while building practical skills in data science and responsible AI practices.
What you'll do#
- Collect, clean, organize, and document datasets for analysis, model development, and evaluation.
- Collaborate with data science, engineering, product, and UX teams to develop and improve predictive models and machine learning workflows.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities to improve customer outcomes.
- Support experiments involving generative AI, large language models, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic workflows.
- Contribute to model and AI-output evaluation, including metrics for accuracy, grounding, reliability, bias, and safety.
- Create visualizations, reports, and notebooks to communicate insights and experiment results.
- Document assumptions, limitations, and evaluation methods to ensure work can be reviewed and reused.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
- Graduation date after June 2027.
- Experience with programming languages and tools such as Python, R, SQL, and common data science libraries.
- A foundation in statistics, machine learning, data visualization, and analytical problem-solving.
- Curiosity about generative AI, large language models, embeddings, and responsible AI practices.
- Strong critical-thinking and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Location: Raleigh, North Carolina (On-site).
- Term: Summer 2027 (11-12 weeks).
- Employment: Full time, paid position.
