About the role#
As a Data Science Intern, you will analyze complex data sets and develop practical skills in statistical analysis and data mining. You will work alongside data scientists and engineers to build machine learning and AI-enabled product solutions. You will focus on exploring model performance, data quality, and retrieval quality for products that use professional and legal content. This role involves evaluating AI-powered experiences while building hands-on skills in responsible AI practices.
What you'll do#
- Collect, clean, organize, and document datasets for analysis, model development, and evaluation.
- Collaborate with data science, engineering, product, and UX teams to develop and improve predictive models and machine learning workflows.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and data-quality issues.
- Support experiments involving generative AI, large language models, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, and agentic workflows.
- Contribute to model and AI-output evaluation, including metrics for accuracy, grounding, reliability, bias, and safety.
- Create visualizations, reports, and notebooks to communicate insights and experiment results.
- Document assumptions, limitations, and responsible AI considerations for your work.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or a related field.
- Graduation date after June 2027.
- Experience with programming languages and tools such as Python, R, SQL, and common data science libraries.
- A foundation in statistics, machine learning, data visualization, and analytical problem-solving.
- Familiarity with generative AI, large language models, embeddings, and RAG concepts.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Term: Summer 2027 (11-12 weeks).
- Start Date: June 7, 2027.
- Location: On-site in Raleigh, North Carolina.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: Paid position ($22-$34 per hour).
