About the role#
Visa Research is seeking a Staff Research Scientist intern to join the GenAI Research team. This role focuses on advancing autonomous and collaborative AI agents for secure, intelligent, and scalable commerce. You will conduct fundamental and applied research to address challenges in AI reliability, safety, and efficiency while working alongside technology and product teams.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research to improve AI agent reliability, reduce hallucinations, and advance safety, security, and ethical alignment.
- Design techniques to enhance AI agent efficiency, including model compression, quantization, fine-tuning strategies, and inference optimization.
- Develop and evaluate secure access control and guardrail systems to promote responsible AI interactions.
- Investigate multi-agent architectures for secure, coordinated, and efficient collaboration.
- Build tools and frameworks to benchmark agent safety, robustness, and performance.
- Prototype and experiment to translate research ideas into practical AI capabilities.
- Contribute to research publications, patents, and technical reports.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Ph.D. program with a graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- A strong research record demonstrated by publications, patents, conference presentations, or technical contributions.
- Experience in AI agents, AI safety, security, alignment, trustworthy AI, or reliable LLM systems.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
- Knowledge of techniques for reducing hallucinations, enabling guardrails, or building secure AI systems.
- Experience with multi-agent systems, agent frameworks, planning, or evaluation techniques.
- Ability to innovate, adapt to ambiguity, and tackle complex research challenges.
- Strong communication and analytical problem-solving skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Work Modality: Hybrid, with at least 3 days per week in the office.
- Employment: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: $56.00 to $63.00 per hour.
- Travel: This position requires 5-10% travel.
