About the role#
As a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern, you will take ownership of hardware sub-components and test rigs. You will work within a team to understand the larger robotic system and contribute to its success. This role involves generating requirements, creating CAD models, and maintaining documentation for project development, fabrication, and testing.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop mechanical sub-components and test rigs while ensuring functionality and manufacturability.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and assembly instructions.
- Build and test prototypes, then analyze performance data to iterate on your designs.
- Use a variety of manufacturing processes and materials to optimize designs for efficiency.
- Participate in design reviews to present concepts and demonstrate prototypes to stakeholders.
- Manage project documentation, including design specifications and testing procedures.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Practical experience in building and testing mechanical systems.
- Hands-on fabrication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate with technical and non-technical members.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship with a rolling term.
- You must be able to work on-site five days a week in either Los Angeles, California, or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- We do not offer visa sponsorship for this position.
