As a Mechanical Design Co-op, you will join the Research & Development team to work on marine robotics components and systems. You will be integrated into the design process from initial concepts to the testing of volume-manufactured products. You will be given the same level of responsibility as full-time engineers, working on real products rather than manufacturing support.
What you'll do#
- Design complex mechanical assemblies, including pressure-rated enclosures, brushless motors, battery modules, connectors, lights, electronics trays, cameras, and vehicle frames.
- Evaluate system failure modes, develop validation plans, and execute testing.
- Conduct component and vehicle-level testing to verify performance, durability, reliability, and variability.
- Design and build new lab testing equipment.
- Identify, communicate with, and build relationships with new suppliers.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an Engineering degree (Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mechatronics, or related fields).
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and drafting using at least one CAD software package (such as Solidworks, NX, CATIA, Inventor, Fusion, or Onshape).
- A strong foundation in statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and engineering materials.
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and testing projects.
- A deep impulse to understand technical systems and leverage that knowledge to create new designs.
- Ability to collaborate, learn, and adapt within a team environment.
