About the role#
The Electro-Optical Engineering department is looking for a co-op student to join as a junior engineer. You will work on hands-on projects related to our core optical technology. You will collaborate with senior team members on testing, analysis, and presentations. This role offers a supportive environment for students who want to take on technical challenges.
What you'll do#
- Test complex Electro-Optical assemblies, including infrared imaging systems, laser rangefinders, and digital cameras.
- Develop image enhancement algorithms using Matlab.
- Run laboratory tests on imaging and laser equipment to support new product design.
- Generate advanced analyses to assist senior Optical Design Engineers.
- Evaluate commercial technologies and identify potential suppliers for integration into our products.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an Engineering Physics degree program or a related field.
- Ability to complete a 16-month co-op term starting in May 2026.
- Current enrollment and good standing with a university co-op program.
- Knowledge of optics principles, including laser systems, geometrical optics, imaging, lens design, radiometry, and thin-film optical coatings.
- Experience with experimental optics and standard electrical test equipment.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Experience with Matlab or a similar software package.
- Strong programming or lens design skills.
- Ability to obtain Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) clearance.
