About the role#
This internship provides hands-on training and mentorship within the construction and engineering operations at Kroger. Interns work under the guidance of project managers and senior construction managers to support the lifecycle of capital projects. The program emphasizes professional development through active project management, cross-functional collaboration, and direct exposure to leadership.
What you'll do#
- Assist project managers with essential job functions, including pre-remodel checklists and fixture or refrigeration drawings.
- Support the execution of the contractor bid process and participate in weekly job meetings.
- Coordinate equipment orders, track deliveries, and manage store fixture installations to align with construction schedules.
- Conduct inspections of capital projects to ensure compliance with specifications and quality control standards.
- Review architectural, electrical, and mechanical plans for completeness and adherence to company standards.
- Manage the project closeout process, including punch lists, as-builts, final invoicing, and filing.
- Complete estimates and oversee the progress of minor capital projects.
- Prepare a cumulative project summarizing internship accomplishments to present to the executive team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Civil, Mechanical, Environmental, Industrial, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, Architecture, or Business Administration.
- A preferred GPA of 3.0.
- Prior experience in a construction environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong initiative and the ability to work independently or in a team setting.
- Ability to analyze information and apply it to business needs.
