About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering quality care and service to our customers. This role involves direct interaction with patients, collaboration with healthcare providers, and maintaining the daily operations of the pharmacy department. You will work under the supervision of a pharmacist to gain practical experience in a retail setting.
What you'll do#
- Create a welcoming experience for customers by answering questions about products and providing drug counseling.
- Accurately input patient and prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
- Accept and interpret oral and written prescriptions for filling and refilling.
- Dispense medications, bag filled prescriptions, and ensure accurate delivery to customers.
- Contact prescribers and insurance companies to resolve authorization and coverage issues.
- Provide immunizations under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Assist with over-the-counter medication recommendations.
- Manage inventory by comparing, checking, and stocking incoming orders and returning unused stock bottles.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized department.
- Support the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals while following quality assurance standards.
- Report safety risks, accidents, or illegal activities to management.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a US school of pharmacy.
- A valid state-issued Pharmacy Intern license.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a high-volume environment.
- Skills to manage conflict in a nonconfrontational and professional manner.
- Commitment to honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when needed.
- Capacity to provide support to diverse groups, including minors, older adults, and individuals with special needs.
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
