About the role#
As a Field Engineer Intern, you serve as the primary engineering resource on construction sites. You will work on projects involving small modular nuclear reactors and other infrastructure facilities. This role involves balancing field and office tasks, requiring you to interpret designs, manage technical issues, and ensure that construction work aligns with project specifications.
What you'll do#
- Act as the construction site engineering resource and manage technical issues as they arise.
- Interpret designs and adjust them to meet specific site conditions.
- Perform quality inspections and monitor technical submittals.
- Support construction supervision and provide final technical approval for completed tasks.
- Apply financial commitment authority for field changes in coordination with Construction Managers.
- Maintain records of installed quantities and track completed construction work.
- Participate in obtaining permits, clearances, lockouts, and work authorizations.
- Verify work in progress to ensure compliance with safety, security, and quality requirements.
- Prepare administrative and technical documents, including purchase requisitions for materials and services.
- Review lessons learned and collaborate with corporate personnel.
- Provide technical support across all project phases, from estimating and formation to testing, inspection, and closeout.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Ability to read and understand engineering design documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with management, customers, and craft personnel.
- Aptitude for conducting field verifications and collaborative problem solving.
- Knowledge of construction engineering principles and safety standards.
- Attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
- Sole US citizenship is required to obtain necessary site access and security clearances.
- Ability to maintain regular, reliable attendance and work overtime or weekends when required.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Lenexa, KS, though project assignments may require travel and relocation.
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- Work is performed on-site.
