About the role#
Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering is hiring an Architectural Engineer Intern to join the Kiewit Architecture and Engineering group for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site, paid internship based in Lenexa, Kansas. You will work under the supervision of experienced engineers to support mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design for industrial and administration buildings.
What you'll do#
- Build a working knowledge of MEP systems and departmental design standards.
- Learn building codes and standards for MEP system design.
- Assist with system design concepts, equipment sizing, equipment selection, and controls.
- Prepare production drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and power systems.
- Check and navigate 3D models to identify interferences and review constructability.
- Verify that HVAC and plumbing installations meet engineering specifications.
- Coordinate shop drawings and equipment submittals during construction administration.
- Participate in technical bid analysis reviews.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with a mechanical or MEP focus.
- A GPA above 3.0 is preferred.
- Familiarity with Revit and AutoCAD.
- Experience with MEP design software like Trane Trace 700 or Carrier HAP is a plus.
- Proficiency in basic spreadsheet, database, and word processing programs.
- Ability to work as a self-starter within multidisciplinary design teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work during normal operating hours, with the flexibility to work overtime and weekends when required.
- Commitment to performing work safely and following all oral and written instructions.
