About the role#
Kentucky Farm Bureau Insurance is hiring an Actuarial Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position based in Louisville, Kentucky. You will report to the Actuarial Services Manager and assist with ratemaking, reserving, and data analytics. This role offers exposure to the insurance business through strategic meetings, training sessions, and collaboration across departments.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with teams in sales, product management, underwriting, and IT to complete actuarial projects.
- Apply analytical techniques to calculate rate level indications for company lines of insurance.
- Analyze trends related to claims, policy growth and retention, quotes, and market research.
- Evaluate rate and product changes.
- Estimate unpaid claims and ultimate claim payment and frequency for individual events.
- Assist accounting and finance personnel with department deliverables.
- Participate in company trainings and outings to build your professional network.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one actuarial exam.
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Science, or a related field with at least two years of coursework completed.
- Proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience using at least one data-intensive coding language such as SAS, R, Python, or SQL.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work well with others inside and outside the organization.
- High school diploma.

- Term: May 2027 to August 2027.
- Work Modality: On-site at the KFB State Office.
- Schedule: 20 to 38 hours per week.
