About the role#
The Spring 2027 Audit Intern role at Keiter CPAs provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public accounting. This internship is a paid position based in Glen Allen, Virginia, and is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in public accounting and the CPA exam. The role involves working on real client engagements alongside audit teams.
What you'll do#
- Assist on audit engagements across multiple industries, including for-profit, nonprofit, and ERISA/benefit plan clients.
- Perform audit testing procedures, including cash, payroll, investment, and substantive testing.
- Help prepare and update audit documentation and workpapers.
- Gain exposure to on-site audit work by interacting with client personnel and observing procedures.
- Use audit software and tools such as CaseWare, XCM, ShareFile, and Excel.
- Learn the full lifecycle of audit engagements from planning to execution and review.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one semester of an intermediate-level accounting class.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other computer skills.
- A clear interest in pursuing a career in public accounting and sitting for the CPA exam.
- Pursuit of a bachelor or master degree in accounting or accounting systems.

- Term: Summer 2027 (Spring 2027 internship period).
- Compensation: $30.00 to $32.50 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
- Work schedule: Minimum of 20 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility to accommodate academic commitments.
